Browser Settings for use with TestYourSelf

NOTE: Before you begin, download the most recent version of the software from the
 Software and Player Plug-ins Page

    Please enable:
  • Cookies: to allow advertisers to credit TestYourSelf with any sales or clicks through the website.
  • Javascript: to be able to use this website at all and display adverts - which help support the website.
    If your browser does not support javascript you are advised to upgrade it.
  • Status Bar: to view links on mouseover.
  • Advert Images: to click, order and buy through and help support TestYourSelf
  • Popups: there should be no popups from me or advertisers to this website. If there are, please let me know. It is therefore, up to you whether you set the 'allow popups from this site' or not.
  • Java: - this is not javascript. Java is not needed for this website but I have left it in for your information.
Browsers Settings
Internet Explorer 6
(PC Only)

Enable Cookies: Tools > Internet Options > Privacy > Advanced > Check "Override Automatic Cookie Handling (accept 1st party; Prompt 3rd party)" and check the option to always accept session cookies. OK back to browser.
Enable Java: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab > scroll down to Java (Sun) and check the box next to “Use XXX X.X for <applet> (required restart)". OK back to browser and restart the machine.
Enable Javascript: Tools > Internet Options > Security Tab > Custom Level > Scroll down to Scripting and enable "Active Scripting," "Allow Paste Operations via Script," "Allow status bar updates via script," and "Scripting of Java Applets". OK back browser.
Enable Status bar: View > Check "Status Bar".
Get New Page Each Visit: Tools > Internet Options > General Tab > in Temporary Internet Files section, click the Settings button > select "Every Visit to Page." OK back to browser.
Pop-up Blocker Settings: Tools > Pop-up Blocker > Pop-up Blocker Settings ... > Add *.carbootsrus. Close back to browser.
Shortcut to advertiser on desktop (Windows XP): (to credit testyourself)
- Right Click on Advert and 'Add to Favorites...' (it includes testyourself id)
- Create in e.g. 'Advertisers' folder
- Open 'Favorites and navigate to the Favorite
- Click-and-Drag Favorite to an empty space on Desktop
AOL Users: Minimize the AOL browser and double-click the Internet Explorer icon to open a new session to use TestYourSelf
Internet Explorer 7

Get New Page Each Visit: Tools > Internet Options > General Tab > in Browsing history section, click the Settings button > select "Every time I visit the webpage." OK and OK back to browser.
Middle click giving new tab in current window : Tools > Internet options >General Tab > in 'Tabs' section, click the Settings button > check 'Always switch to new tabs when they are created' + 'Open links from other programs in' select 'A new tab in the current window'. Click OK and OK back to browser.
Pop-up Blocker Settings: Tools > Pop-up Blocker > Pop-up Blocker Settings ... > Add *.carbootsrus.com > Close back to browser.
Trusted Sites: Tools > Internet Options > Security > Trusted sites > Sites > Uncheck "Require server verification for all sites in this zone"
- Add *.testyourself.dnsalias.com > Close and OK back to browser.
Saving links to advertisers (Windows XP):
- Right Click on Advert and 'Add to Favorites...' OR
- Right Click on Ad, 'Copy Shortcut' (left click) > Find space on desktop > Right click and 'Paste Shortcut'
Mozilla Firefox
(PC and Mac)

 NOTE: for Mac OS X browsers, access preferences via the Application Menu (ex. Firefox>Preferences).
Enable Cookies: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies > select “Accept cookies from sites.” OK back to browser.
Enable Java: Tools > Options > Content > check the “Enable Java” box. OK back to browser.
Enable Javascript: Tools > Options > Content > check the “Enable Javascript” box. OK back to browser.
Advanced JavaScript Settings : Tools > Options > Content > Click the "Advanced" button next to Enable JavaScript > check the "Change status bar text" box. OK and OK back to browser.
Enable Status Bar: View > Check “Status Bar”.
Get new page each visit: Tools > Options > Privacy > History tab: set “Remember Visited Pages for the Last 0 Days.” OK back to browser.
Popup Blocker Settings: Tools > Options > Content > Click the “Exceptions” button next to Block Pop-up Windows > Add *.testyourself > Click Allow and Close. OK back to browser.
Shortcut to advertiser on desktop (Windows XP): (to credit testyourself)
- Right Click on Advert and 'Bookmark This Link...' (it includes testyourself id)
- Create in e.g. 'Advertisers' folder
- Open 'Bookmarks and navigate to the Bookmark
- Click-and-Drag Bookmark to an empty space on Desktop
Clear Browser Cache: Tools > Options > Privacy > Private Data > click "Clear Now" button. OK back to browser.
Safari 1.2 & 2.0
(Mac Only)

 I understand that the settings are:
All Settings: Safari Menu > Preferences > click Security icon > Check: Enable Plugins, Java, & Javascript.
- Clear checkbox on "Block Popup Windows."
- Accept Cookies > select "Only From Sites You Navigate To."
Netscape 9
(IE simulation)
